So, thinking of getting a Westie?

If you are thinking of getting a Westie or already have one, you've made a good choice for a pet friend! Wolfie is highly intelligent, friendly, loving, and obedient. When I take him for walks people always have to come over to see him. He loves the attention. He does not shed. He loves to be clean and groomed and likes taking showers with me. Great watch-dog. At 25 pounds I don't expect a German Shepard intimidation, but he lets us know when people are around the house outside. On the downside, he can be stubborn and easily loses interest in certain things such as playing tug-of-war or eating the same food. He has sensitive skin and is prone to allergies. Even though he is friendly, he also welcomes his alone times. He prefers adults over small children. Children can bug him...he will just go somewhere's and hide. If you get a Westie, plan on having your bed taken over. Wolfie now sleeps on the bed on his own king-size pillow. I just planted some new plants in the backyard. Of course, he needs to urinate on them now.

Is Wolfie spoiled? You bet. Our kids are grown and on their own now so wolfie's our new baby. He and the wife have a game...Wolfie will steal one of her make-up sponges out of the garage laundry basket and play with it like a cat with catnip. In order for my wife to get it back she bribes him with a treat. It's pretty funny. When there are no sponges, he'll settle for one of her socks. He also likes to be scratched on the chest...if you stop he will place his paw on you or lick your hand as a reminder to get on with it. This can go on a long time.

Wolfie has just learned to open doors with his nose (he's 2 years old). You'll be doing your business in the bathroom when you hear the door suddenly open and there he is...staring at you! Some other things that amuse him: growling at bees (he got stung in the butt once), de-tailing lizards, hates telemarketers (runs away when the phone rings...probably conditioned from my swearing), riding in my Solstice roadster with the top down, eating (Chicken, especially KFC...mixed with kibble of course), his doggie friends Cowboy, Sasha, Max, and Kiwi, and playing with his chewy bones. I play an electric guitar with headphones so as not to disturb the neighbors...one day Wolfie comes over to me and starts to paw my arm...he wanted me to put the headphones on him...he loved it!

So, am I glad we have a Westie? I'm sure you know the answer to that. He never fails to impress us. We look forward to seeing him. Meeting us at the door jumping up in the air and tail wagging. Dogs are great!
