Bad doggie!
Wolfie bit my wife today. She got up to go to work this morning at her usual time to let the dogs out. It's been raining a lot here lately, so we keep the doggie door closed at night to prevent the dogs from tracking in mud. Usually when it is dry we keep the doggie door open all the time. So, as she goes to let the dogs out this morning Wolfie proceeds to lift his leg and pee on the door vertical blinds. So my wife scolds him...I can hear this while I'm still in bed. Then she lets out a shriek. I run down stairs and she's crying and holding her arm out which is bleeding. I can see teeth marks. What's going on, I asked. As I'm dressing her wound, she explained that after she scolded Wolfie for peeing in the house (2 days in a row now), he growled at her baring his teeth. Her response was to tap him sharply on his muzzle with her hand...someone at work told her she does this when her dog growls. Well, I guess Wolfie saw this action as aggressive and reacted accordingly. He never gets hit for anything. My wife was devastated. I also felt very depressed today. Wolfie was very demure all day and responded to my commands immediately. Obviously he sees me as the alpha dog...not my wife. we're still trying to figure out how to prevent this from happening again. Obviously, no physical action needs to be taken for any disobedience...it only makes things worse. I'm also reading a book right now about how dogs think...very informative.

A Westie Christmas

Wolfie and Bella had a great Christmas. Both dogs got a present...a stuffed weiner dog, which they eagerly tore to shreds in one day. They were like little kids. Bella got the pink one and wolfie got the blue one. As jealousy has it, Wolfie ended up with the pink one and Bella ended up with the blue one. They even got into a tug of war match with the toys. It was a ball to watch. Wolfie was spotted on top of the dining room table as supper was being prepared for our guests. Food. Always about food. He was quickly reprimanded and ran outside. The dogs were pysched with all the attention and company we had but Bella had a problem with our 2 year old niece for some reason and kept trying to nip her feet. Poor Belle had to be held all day and was shaking uncontrollably. Our niece wasn't rattled at all...she was too absorbed in her X-mas presents. It was a great Holiday and the dogs ate very well which is their favorite thing in the world.
